The reality of 'ATMANIRBHAR BHARAT'
India has today closed all the doors to China. We have come up with 'atmanirbhar bharat' which basically means to manufacture things in India. Well this was implemented because of the growing tensions between the two countries. Here we are not going to talk about right or wrong but will try to show perspective and benefit India will get from this.
Let's just drive a little bit into our history. After independence somewhat India and China were in the same position infact in the 1950s-60s China was severely suffering from poverty and unemployment. They were facing huge losses of lives every year. At that time many countries were opening to liberalisation to help each other in building their economy. China and India were the only two nations were labour was cheap and could setup manufacturing units easily. Unfortunately only China agreed to open up and thus many companies started to set their manufacturing centres. In this period China's gdp was growing at an average of 6 % rate every year which was huge. They soon became so good that almost all countries started to import from China. Sadly, India was too late in opening up. By that time almost all countries were shifting towards the service sector so India had to also move. That's the main reason we didn't focus much on manufacturing. Remember if a country's manufacturing sector is good he will definitely progress because all the things that you see around is required in your daily life and is recurring in nature.
In 2019, the trade war that happened between China and US led huge losses to the companies because of the tariffs imposed. The companies started to move out of China and tried to setup manufacturing bases in many countries including India. It all happened in the early stages when covid was in the rise. At that time India came up with 'atmanirbhar bharat ' and many companies including Apple, Samsung, Foxconn, Wistron, Egatron, etc. entered India.
In august 2020 Indian government announced that they are going to rule out 'Production Linked Incentive programme' which invites more than 12 lakh crore investments and will give jobs to more than 12 lakh Indians. In this programme basically government is going to give some incentives to companies to set manufacturing units in India. Here are a few things that will benefit to people like you and me and also to the country:
A) People of India will get jobs.
B)Government will incur a lot of profit due to the sales that will happen in further years.
C) Companies will be able to do business very easily.
D) This policy will focus more on tier 2 and 3 cities. This will help in providing scope for development and providing employment in developing areas of the country.
E)And the last is unless we mess up in handling e-waste, any restrictions in carrying out business, it will definitely help us in the long run. It will lay a foundation that will help us in acquiring more companies in future.
We always complain about a lot of things but do not find the solutions. It's always better to be optimistic. We as a country will be able to get rid of the dependence that we have on China. Yes, it will take a lot of time. The programme is nice but the execution is difficult due to various problems like restrictions in opening, various tax laws, labour laws, etc. When initially people were saying ban Chinese products, it was trending within a day on all social media platforms. We only show our power in social media but in reality everyone knows the truth. Recently in Diwali, many offers were there on Chinese smartphones and most of them also purchased. It's not the buyer's fault because only these brands are seen in the market. If China is providing amazing technology at a very less price everyone will purchase. We don't see any alternatives and even if there are, they are not satisfying the consumer's needs. We need to start manufacturing things here otherwise in the long run we won't be able to compete with anyone and the dream of becoming a superpower will remain incomplete.
